It was an exciting day at MHS! We recognized students at the M Awards Assembly for academics, behavior, and motivation in their classes. Our 2025 Mr. and Miss MHS were recognized. This honor is given to two seniors who were chosen by the faculty and staff at MHS. Congratulations to Bryce Beasley and Laurie Lamance. Mrs. Hays organized an inaugural event for MHS students. Senior Signing Day in high school is a celebratory event where graduating seniors publicly announce and commit to their post-graduation plans. This often includes signing letters of intent for college admissions, athletic scholarships, military enlistment, or entering the workforce. It's a way to recognize students' achievements and future goals, similar in spirit to National Signing Day for athletes, but expanded to all paths. It was a symbolic and special day for all the seniors and their families who were able to attend.

Tonight, Carl D. Rogers Gymnasium was transformed into a beautiful setting as we honored MHS students for the academic accomplishments this school year. Thank you Tina Metzger, Food Service Diretor, for the wonderful Hors d'oeuvres that were served by students the MMS 8th grade class. The Jazz Band added a touch of pizzazz to the evening as they played while everyone ate and visited. Thank you Mrs. Vanzandt and students! Tonight's guest speaker is an MHS Alum, Class of 1986, Mr. Todd Marshell. Thank you for taking the time to be a part of this special event for our students. And finally, thank you to all the students, parents, guardians, and family who attended tonight. In the quiet hills of Mountainburg, where the school is more than just a building—it’s a hub of the community—you'll find a special kind of teacher. These aren’t just educators. They are mentors and motivators who invest themselves in every student who walks through their doors. At Mountainburg Schools, teachers wear many hats. One moment they are leading a science experiment with eager third graders; the next, they are comforting a nervous high school senior on making decisions for their future. Their classrooms are filled not just with books and computers, but with encouragement, creativity, and a belief that every student matters. What truly sets them apart is their unwavering commitment. Many of our teachers grew up in Mountainburg or were "transplanted" here through marriage or being hired here. They know their students by name, their stories, and their dreams. They attend ball games, music concerts, and community events—not because they have to, but because they care. The teachers at Mountainburg Schools are here serving as guiding hands and steady voices that help young people discover who they are and what they can become. They don’t just teach lessons; they shape futures.

Mountainburg Public Schools is initiating a strategic plan to address facility needs. To support our students and provide a high-quality learning environment, we are requesting a 3.9-mill increase, which would bring our millage rate to 47.9 mills. This funding would allow us to build a new middle school/ high school cafeteria providing a modern, warm, safe and dry kitchen and student dining space. Voters will decide on this investment in May 2025, ensuring we can meet both current and future student needs. The next public meeting will be on Tuesday, May 6 at 6:00 Please join us in the MMS/MHS Cafeteria for a Q&A, review and provide input in the preliminary designs, tour the existing cafeteria, and the new Dragon Gym & Activity Center. You can learn more about the project here: https://secure.smore.com/n/12mg9

May is a month of blooming flowers, warming weather, and a sense of anticipation in schools everywhere. As spring settles in, students and teachers alike begin to feel the excitement of the approaching summer break. Classrooms are filled with the hum of final projects, test reviews, and countdowns to the last day of school. For many schools, May is also a time of celebration. From field days and spring concerts to graduation ceremonies and award nights, the month is packed with moments that recognize hard work and growth. It’s a time to reflect on the progress made throughout the school year, to honor accomplishments, and to look ahead to new adventures. In May, the days stretch longer and brighter, encouraging outdoor learning, school garden projects, and end-of-year picnics. There’s a feeling of both closure and new beginnings—perfect for inspiring students to finish strong and dream big.
